Body
language is the form of speaking in a non-verbal fashion and is a common human
behavior trait. The way people read body languages differs yet it all boils
down to interpretation. To help you grasp a deeper meaning of body language and
its magic, let’s review.
If a person
is walking upright in a brisk fashion he or she is illustrating confidence. Now
it depends on where you are at in public as to how people will interpret this
signal, but if you are giving a public speech, at an interview, and the like
the person will be impressed at your achievements. It is a sign you have
accomplished an identity and a place in life. On the other hand, if you were
walking in certain neighborhoods, the people may think you are a snob.
If you ever
seen a mother stand with the hands on the hips, it can send a signal of
aggression or eagerness to deal with a situation. Yet, some people will stand
with their hands on their hip as they verbally communicate, using the hip as a
resting area.
You
probably noticed that many people will sit with their legs crossed over the
other, and will sit in a chair kicking their feet in a slight gesture.
According to theorists this is a sign that the person is bored, which may be
true. Many people will cross their legs while sitting, thus it is a common body
language conveyed. Sometimes it is habit, since some people follow
environmental and hereditary habits.
Some people
believe if a person stands upright with his/her hands folded over the chest
area, the person is signaling a defense language. This is not always the truth,
since military men, and many men in society will cross their arms over the
chest area while speaking. This could mean that the men are alert or that they
are resting their arms. In some incidents it could mean the person is keeping
warm, especially if the weather is cold.
If a person
is seated and the legs are slightly parted, thus it is according to theorist a
signal that the person is relaxed and open to communication.
If a person
is noticed in a hallway, or walking down the road, etc with his/her hands fixed
in the pockets and the shoulders are hunching, it is a sign that the person
feels sad. The fact is many men will walk with their hands in the pocket, while
hunching the shoulders. This could mean the posture is out of alignment and
that the man needs to rest his hands. This is a body language I would need to
study more into, since I am not ready to verify that the sign of sadness is the
true interpretation of the language conveyed.
Some people
will put their hands to their cheeks while evaluating the situation or thinking
of an issue in question. Some people will put their hands to their cheek, while
saying oh my, my, my. This is a sign that they are thinking of what you are
saying, but uncertain if they agree to your words. Alternatively, the person
may feel amazed at your logic.
Some people
claim that if a person is rubbing or touching the nose slightly that the person
is lying, feeling sad or else in doubt. I second-guess this logic, since some
people deal with sinuses, allergies and the like and will often rub the nose.
You would have to decide the personality type of the person speaking before you
start calling them a liar, or doubtful person.
